How to Minimize Food Poisoning Symptoms in Adults
In adults, the main symptom of food poisoning that requires treatment is dehydration (from vomiting, diarrhea, etc). While most cases are not fatal, in severe cases of dehyrdation medical attention should be sought immediately.
The treatment of dehydration is fairly simple: take frequent sips from a rehydration drink (sold in drugstores) and stick to your regular diet. WebMD offers a recipe for a rehydration drink that you can make at home (for adults only).
If you are vomiting or nauseous, you should not eat anything. It will only exacerbate your condition, making it last longer than it should. In this case, you should only sip liquids, and rest as much as possible. And once you are able to eat, avoid foods that are high in fat or sugar.
After your symptoms have disappeared, you should not eat spicy foods or drink alcohol or coffee for at least two days.
